LR Question 8 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: The traditional way to define the difference …

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS:

  • Traditionally, we defined rural vs. urban lifestyles geographically.
  • Now, technology makes it better to define them informationally.
  • Example 1: Someone living in a city but rarely communicating electronically = rural lifestyle
  • Example 2: Someone living in the country but constantly communicating electronically = urban lifestyle

ANALYSIS: So geographic location matters less than it used to because electronic communication is becoming the more important way of defining lifestyles.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This is basically a paraphrase of the stimulus.
  2. Nothing says people who use technology prefer urban lifestyles. The stimulus isn’t about satisfaction or preferences.
  3. The examples suggest this may often be true, but it isn’t the main point. The stimulus isn’t making an empirical claim about communication frequencies. It’s proposing a new definition of rural and urban lifestyles.
  4. Nobody discusses our inability to foresee future changes.
  5. Nothing says people are moving to different regions because of technology. The whole point is that lifestyle categories can change without people moving at all.
