LR Question 17 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: A recent study of major motion pictures revealed that

QUESTION TYPE: Paradox – Exception

PARADOX: Most movie plots are rehashes of old plots. But, lots of people enjoy watching several new movies per year.

ANALYSIS: On paradox/except questions, the best thing to do is consider a couple of possibilities, then read the answers and open your mind to possibilities. In advance, I thought of:

Maybe there are enough variations that people are not familiar with all of them.

Maybe the differences in the plot are enough to make movies interesting even though they are familiar.

Maybe people like watching familiar things.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This explains why studios make movies, but not why people enjoy them.
  2. This explains it: the plots seem new even though they are similar.
  3. This also explains it: there’s enough variety that people aren’t familiar with all the variations.
  4. This makes sense. People enjoy the movies even though they are familiar.
  5. If this is true, then the plots won’t be familiar, even though they are repeats.
