LR Question 13 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Public health will improve more quickly in the wake of…

QUESTION TYPE: Weaken

CONCLUSION: Public health will improve if researchers inform the press of their findings without waiting for the peer review process.

REASONING: The public can use the information to improve their health once it is released. Yet the peer review process is slow.

ANALYSIS: Even peer-reviewed scientific research is often wrong. Especially medical research. It’s why we’re told not to eat eggs one day and then the next day we’re told that eggs are fine.

If we skip peer review we’re likely to publish even more incorrect research. That may just confuse the public and give them bad advice that harms their health.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This means that if we skip peer review we may simply confuse the public or give them inaccurate information.
  2. This supports the argument. People will actually listen to the new findings.
  3. This is…obvious. Of course there are other factors in health improvement. This doesn’t affect the argument in any way.
  4. This would strengthen the argument (it is a necessary assumption in fact.)
  5. The argument is not claiming we should give up peer review. It’s saying we should publish in the press while we wait for peer review to finish.

Recap: The question begins with “Public health will improve more quickly in the wake of”. It is a Weaken question. Learn how to master LSAT Weaken questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
