LR Question 10 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Psychologists have claimed that many people are more…

QUESTION TYPE: Method of Reasoning

CONCLUSION: The survey results do not justify the psychologists’ claim that seasonal affective disorder exists.

REASONING: It is not clear that people are able to report accurately on their past psychological states.

ANALYSIS: This is a good argument. Seasonal affective disorder may or not be real. But the survey results do not support its existence: it is doubtful that they are accurate.

___________

  1. The argument is actually casting doubt on the idea that there is a variation.
  2. Same as A. The argument isn’t sure that such a disorder even exists.
  3. The main criticism of the survey was that it wasn’t clear it was accurate.
  4. CORRECT. Yes. The assumption is that the survey was accurate and that people can recall their past psychological states. The psychologists would have had to believe this in order for them to believe their survey was useful.
  5. The argument states that it’s unclear if the disorder even exists.
