LSAT 17 | Section 3 | Logical Reasoning: Q17

LSAT Preptest 17 explanations

LR Question 17 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Although tales of wonder and the fantastic are integral…

QUESTION TYPE: Weaken

CONCLUSION: Favorable attention to fantasy books by book reviewers has caused the increase in fantasy book sales.

ANALYSIS: We need to show that book reviews (which happened in the past) did not cause the increased sales of fantasy books.

The argument has no reasoning to support the conclusion so we’re pretty open as to what kind of answer would work.

___________

  1. This would strengthen the book sellers argument. Favorable reviews cause more fantasy books to be published.
  2. CORRECT. This does it. Reviews have almost no influence on those who purchase fantasy books.
  3. This would let us conclude that booksellers might promote fantasy books more heavily if they were getting favorable reviews.
  4. This predicts the future but offers no explanation for the past.
  5. This tells us something about the fantasy reviews but it doesn’t tell us if the reviews affected sales.

Recap: The question begins with “Although tales of wonder and the fantastic are integral”. It is a Weaken question. Learn how to master LSAT Weaken questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
