LSAT Preptest 17 explanations

LR Question 18 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Although tales of wonder and the fantastic are integral…

QUESTION TYPE: Strengthen

CONCLUSION: Favorable attention to fantasy books by book reviewers has caused the increase in fantasy book sales.

ANALYSIS: We need to show that book reviews (which happened in the past) did cause the increased sales of fantasy books.

The argument has no reasoning to support the conclusion so we’re pretty open as to what kind of answer would work.

Answers A-D don’t even mention book reviews. That eliminates them automatically.

___________

  1. This doesn’t help. We don’t know if fantasy books require a higher or lower reading level.
  2. This gives an explanation for the increase in fantasy novels that doesn’t involve book reviews. Oops.
  3. This tells us something about fantasy publishing but it doesn’t help us conclude that book reviews caused sales.
  4. This doesn’t say anything about book reviews.
  5. CORRECT. This shows that book reviews helped convince readers to buy fantasy novels.

Recap: The question begins with “Although tales of wonder and the fantastic are integral”. It is a Strengthen question. Learn more about LSAT Strengthen questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
