LR Question 13 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Some people think that in every barrel of politicians…

QUESTION TYPE: Must be False

CONCLUSION: All effective politicians are rotten.

REASONING: Effective politician ➞ deceitful ➞ rotten

Not deceitful ➞ not effective politician

ANALYSIS: This question is pretty straightforward. Effective politicians are dishonest, which makes them rotten.

And if you’re honest, you’re not effective. Answer E contradicts this.

___________

  1. This is possible. The argument doesn’t tell us what all people think.
  2. Politicians can be scrupulously honest. They just won’t be effective.
  3. That could be. This is similar to A. We’re not told what all people believe.
  4. It could be. Effective politicians are deceitful but the reverse doesn’t have to be true.
  5. CORRECT. This can’t be true. The last sentence contradicts it. Every honest politician is ineffective.

Recap: The question begins with “Some people think that in every barrel of politicians”. It is a Must be False question. Learn how to master LSAT MBF questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
