LR Question 19 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: No one in the French department to which Professor…

QUESTION TYPE: Parallel Reasoning

CONCLUSION: Professor Alban won’t be teaching two introductory classes.

REASONING: Alban isn’t allowed to teach more than one introductory class. And, in fact, there are no introductory classes for him to teach!

ANALYSIS: This is a good argument. It provides two reasons that are each sufficient to prove the conclusion on their own.

___________

  1. This is a good argument, but it only gives one reason.
  2. This just gives us one reason: the code doesn’t apply to buildings before 1900.
  3. This just gives us one reason: the building will be assessed because it is on Overton road.
  4. CORRECT. 1st reason: It is a new building in the city with public space. 2nd reason: It is a new building in the Alton district. Both reasons are each sufficient to prove the conclusion.
  5. This just gives one reason: the hospital will be charged a special rate because it is exempt from property taxes.
