LSAT Preptest 105 explanations

LR Question 9 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Someone who gets sick from eating a meal will often…

QUESTION TYPE: Strengthen

CONCLUSION: Children are particularly likely to hate certain foods because of the fact that if a meal makes someone sick, they will dislike the ingredient that gave it its strongest taste.

REASONING: There is no reasoning given for why children are the most likely to develop this distaste.

ANALYSIS: The stimulus gives no evidence at all for its conclusion that children are more likely to develop hatred for certain foods. So any reason at all will do.

___________

  1. This weakens the argument. It is distinctive flavors that make us hate food when a meal makes us sick.
  2. Health has nothing to do with whether we develop distaste for a food.
  3. CORRECT. This shows that children are more likely to pick out a distinctive flavor (and therefore hate the food if they get sick) and they are more likely to get sick from a meal.
  4. The stimulus didn’t say the food hatred is worse if recovery is slow.
  5. This should protect children (slightly) from sickness. Sometimes you only realize you have an allergy when you eat an unfamiliar food. This weakens the argument slightly.

Recap: The question begins with “Someone who gets sick from eating a meal will often”. It is a Strengthen question. Learn how to master LSAT Strengthen questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
