LSAT Preptest 23 explanations

RC Passage 1 Explanation

Paragraph Summaries

  1. Many important “Rembrandt” paintings may be fake. Alpers uses this to talk about Rembrandt’s unique approach to painting.
  2. Alpers argues that Rembrandt was concerned with selling and marketing his paintings on the open market. He refused the patronage system.
  3. Alpers goes too far. Rembrandt painted for aesthetic reasons as well as money.

Analysis

The author of the passage partly agrees with Alpers, and partly disagrees with her. Lines 55-58 show the author’s conclusion.

Many of the wrong answers assume you’ll confuse Alpers’ views with those of the author.

Alpers’ views are in the second paragraph. These are not proven.

The author uses the third paragraph to disagree with Alpers.
