LSAT 23 | Section 4 | Reading Comprehension: Q1

LSAT Preptest 23 explanations

RC Question 1 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The author presents Alpers’ views in the second paragraph, and then disagrees with them in the third paragraph. This disagreement is the main point.

___________

  1. Only Alpers claimed that Rembrandt wanted to sell on the open market. E.g. “She claims” (lines 17-18)
  2. This is Alpers’ conclusion. The author thinks aesthetics are important too (lines 50-55).
  3. Alpers mentions that Rembrandt sold his works on the open market (lines 17-19), but she never said he was the first.

And this answer ignores the author’s main point, which was that we must consider Rembrandt’s aesthetic sense.
  4. CORRECT. Lines 50-55 support this. The author disagrees with Alpers that we can view Rembrandt as just an entrepreneur. Aesthetics are also very important.
  5. This is part of Alpers’ argument (lines 29-30). It’s not the author’s argument.
