LSAT 101 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q2

LSAT Preptest 101 explanations

RC Question 2 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Lines 15-18 explain the purpose of risk communication. It should help people make information decisions about the risks posed by technology.

___________

  1. CORRECT. If you’re just helping people making a decision, then you’re not trying to persuade them to choose one side over the other.
  2. Lines 15-18 show that risk communicators should  explain technology, but they shouldn’t persuade people to choose one way or the other. So “promotion” is out.
  3. Lines 15-18 make clear that risk communication is aimed at the lay public.
  4. Risk communication isn’t necessarily supposed to allay fears. Sometimes, fears are justified. Risk communication is only supposed to inform.
  5. Risk communication is not supposed to make the public accept new technologies. Risk communication gives people the information to decide whether to accept new technologies.
