LSAT 101 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q20

LSAT Preptest 101 explanations

RC Question 20 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The passage starts by introducing outcomes analysis. Then they criticize it in detail in the second paragraph. The third paragraph presents two better techniques.

___________

  1. CORRECT. The first paragraph introduces outcomes analysis. The second paragraph criticizes it. The third paragraph presents two better theories.
  2. There’s no evidence of a debate between traditional theorists and those who use social science. And the final paragraph doesn’t show a compromise between any theories.
  3. These terms are completely off-base:

    1. The author describes a technique, not a theory.
    2. They criticize the theory, rather than clarify.
    3. And the author tells us about two other theories; they don’t present a plan.
  4. There are no standards in the first paragraph. The second paragraph doesn’t mention any examples. The third paragraph introduces other techniques, it doesn’t amend any criteria.
  5. This is almost right. But it’s a technique that’s being challenged, not a position.

And the final paragraph presents two other techniques. The author doesn’t revise the challenge they made against outcomes analysis.
