LR Question 21 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: If this parking policy is unpopular with the faculty…

QUESTION TYPE: Must be True

FACTS:

  1. If faculty members don’t like the policy, modify it.
  2. If the students don’t like the policy, abandon it.
  3. Either the students or the faculty won’t like the policy.

ANALYSIS: Since one of the two groups won’t like the policy, we must either modify or abandon it.

Remember that if one group likes it, then that means the other dislikes it.

___________

  1. Who knows? Maybe it’s a bad policy, and we shouldn’t try to save it.
  2. We’re never told we should try to keep the plan popular with students. Maybe if won’t be such a bad thing if they dislike it and we must get rid of it. We only know that we must modify the policy if the professors don’t like it.
  3. Why should we modify it, unless it’s unpopular with the faculty?
  4. If it’s popular with students, then it’s unpopular with the faculty. That means we should modify it, not scrap it.
  5. CORRECT. If the plan is popular with faculty, then it’s unpopular with students, because one of the two groups always hates it. And if students don’t like it, we must scrap it.
