LSAT 102 | Section 2 | Logical Reasoning: Q5

LSAT Preptest 102 explanations

LR Question 5 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Advances in photocopying technology allow criminals with no…

QUESTION TYPE: Weaken

CONCLUSION: We should choose the more expensive anti-counterfeiting technique, because it is more effective.

REASONING: No reasoning is given to support this choice over the less expensive, less effective version.

ANALYSIS: This isn’t a good argument. We don’t know how expensive the special ink is, or how big a problem counterfeiting is.

___________

  1. This strengthens the argument. Micro-filtering allows counterfeits to go undetected for a long time.
  2. CORRECT. This shows that some counterfeiters could produce bills with special ink that even experts could not recognize. Meanwhile, counterfeiters can’t deceive experts with micro-filtering.
  3. This strengthens the argument. Counterfeiters will only get better at photocopying money.
  4. This helps the argument. It’s easier for an amateur to photocopy money than to print using a special ink.
  5. This just makes it hard to judge which technique to use. It doesn’t weaken the argument.

Recap: The question begins with “Advances in photocopying technology allow criminals with no”. It is a Weaken question. Learn how to master LSAT Weaken questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
