LSAT 102 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q15

LSAT Preptest 102 explanations

RC Question 15 Explanation

DISCUSSION: In the fourth paragraph, the author describes intertribal ceremonies. They have both intertribal dances and tribal dances. English and Native languages are spoken.

In other words, Native Americans are borrowing from many sources: other tribes, the majority culture.

The lines in question tell us not to focus on these things. They’ve been happening for a long time. It’s only important to note that Native Americans are consciously aware of the difference between tribal and intertribal dances.

___________

  1. CORRECT. Indeed. It’s not new that Natives speak English or dance intertribal dances.

The author has told us this so that he can go on to emphasize the conscious distinction between tribal and intertribal dances.
  2. The author never said whether Natives ought to speak English. He just said it’s not surprising.
  3. Lines 48-50 suggest that this conscious distinction is important. The author said it’s the only thing worth noticing.
  4. What? Apart from English, there’s no mention of anything taken from non-Native cultures.
  5. Same as D.
