LSAT Preptest 102 explanations

RC Question 22 Explanation

DISCUSSION: To summarize an argument, you don’t have to mention every paragraph. The first two paragraphs of this passage just set the stage for the argument to follow. They define organicism and the analytic method.

The criticisms of organicism (paragraphs 3 and 4) and the new information about the analytic method (paragraph 5) are the heart of the argument.

___________

  1. The author rejects organicist theory.
  2. This only describes the third paragraph. The author’s criticism of organicism is deeper.
  3. This is better than C, but still not complete. It ignores the final paragraph, where the author points out that scientists do study systems as a whole.
  4. CORRECT. Paragraphs three and four describe the flawed method, and paragraph five describes the misunderstanding.
  5. This only covers the fifth paragraph.
