DISCUSSION: The author says that the main problem with the theory of Internal Relations is that it makes it impossible for us to understand anything.
(lines 34-41)
It’s reasonable to say that the purpose of a theory is to help us understand something. So since the theory of Internal Relations makes it impossible to understand anything, the theory contradicts its basic purpose.
___________
- The theory of Internal Relations probably does define entities. The theory identifies each separate entity. To do that you need a definition for what an identity is.
- CORRECT. See discussion.
- The organicists think that their theory does preserve complexity (lines 4-6), and the author never disagrees with them on this point.
- The author says that scientists try to figure out the initial conditions of a system (lines 45-50).
The author never says that all theories must do this. - The author spends the entire passage arguing that analytic scientists are correct, and organicists are wrong. Analytic scientists study parts separately.
