LSAT 102 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q26

LSAT Preptest 102 explanations

RC Question 26 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The author says that the main problem with the theory of Internal Relations is that it makes it impossible for us to understand anything. (lines 34-41)

It’s reasonable to say that the purpose of a theory is to help us understand something. So since the theory of Internal Relations makes it impossible to understand anything, the theory contradicts its basic purpose.

___________

  1. The theory of Internal Relations probably does define entities. The theory identifies each separate entity. To do that you need a definition for what an identity is.
  2. CORRECT. See discussion.
  3. The organicists think that their theory does preserve complexity (lines 4-6), and the author never disagrees with them on this point.
  4. The author says that scientists try to figure out the initial conditions of a system (lines 45-50).

The author never says that all theories must do this.
  5. The author spends the entire passage arguing that analytic scientists are correct, and organicists are wrong. Analytic scientists study parts separately.
