LR Question 10 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Sales manager: Last year the total number of meals sold…

QUESTION TYPE: Weaken

CONCLUSION: The accountant thinks that the company’s meals are less desirable to consumers.

REASONING: Individual stores that were open this year and last experienced sales declines.

ANALYSIS: The accountant says that meals are less desirable. To weaken his argument, we need to find another reason why sales declined at individual restaurants.

___________

  1. If the new dishes were popular, this strengthens the accountant’s argument that meals are less desirable.
  2. The accountant isn’t saying the overall increased sales are bad. He just disagrees that they prove that customers like the company’s meals. He implies it was restaurant expansion that drove increased sales.
  3. This contradicts the accountant. He said no restaurant increased its sales. This answer choice is talking about restaurants that don’t exist.
  4. The accountant never said anything which meals contributed to better sales. So this can hardly affect his argument.
  5. CORRECT. This shows another cause for the decline. People didn’t stop buying because they don’t like the meals. They stopped buying because they’re poor.

Recap: The question begins with “Sales manager: Last year the total number of meals sold”. It is a Weaken question. Learn more about LSAT Weaken questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
