LR Question 22 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates…

QUESTION TYPE: Must be True

ANALYSIS: Government and academics do research. Then the FDA coordinates the transfer of new knowledge to the marketplace. Only once the FDA is done do new therapies help consumers.

So if a government scientist discovers a cure for cancer it won’t benefit a patient until the FDA is done (according to this stimulus).

The first two sentences are context/filler.

___________

  1. We don’t know. The stimulus doesn’t mention marketing. It mentions therapies going to the marketplace, which is different. This answer choice makes a very broad statement.
  2. CORRECT. The last sentence tells us this is true. Therapies cannot reach the market place until the FDA has okayed them.
  3. The stimulus hasn’t assigned blame. It hasn’t even said there is an excessively long testing period. Be careful with outside assumptions.
  4. The stimulus doesn’t talk about what “should” be done. Be careful when a question switches from how things are to how they should be.
  5. This isn’t necessarily true. The FDA could make a mistake. There is a 0% chance of patients being helped before the transfer, but that doesn’t mean there is a 100% chance after the transfer.
