LSAT 115 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q2

LSAT Preptest 115 explanations

RC Question 2 Explanation

DISCUSSION: This question is tricky. The right answer doesn’t seem definitely true.

Actually, it isn’t. But that’s fine, look at what the question asks: The author would “most probably” agree with which one?

So the author might disagree with D. But they didn’t mention us becoming poorer, and they’d like the developing world to become rich (lines 2-4). So presumably they think an industrial ecosystem could make us well off.

___________

  1. The passage hasn’t said whether developed countries will need to become poorer.
  2. Maybe? If we don’t adopt industrial ecosystems, we’ll be in trouble. Otherwise, who knows…we might get richer if we used them.
  3. This is only true if we fail to adopt an industrial ecosystem.
  4. CORRECT. This is a bit of a stretch, but it’s reasonable to infer. The passage says that we could have a system where there are ten billion people and they are all equally rich. (Lines 4-10). And, an ideal industrial system could make things sustainable. (Lines 29-31 and 54-56). The author probably would have mentioned if his preferred system would make us poor or keep the poor in poverty.
  5. The author would likely only agree with this if we failed to adopt an industrial ecosystem. We might avoid disaster if we started moving towards one.
