LSAT 116 | Section 4 | Reading Comprehension: Q17

LSAT Preptest 116 explanations

RC Question 17 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The third paragraph gives examples of Native American objects which could be seen as autobiographical. These examples reinforce the idea that Native Americans did make autobiographies.

___________

  1. What traditional interpretations of the artifacts? None are given.
  2. What theory is being undermined? We’re not told if the scholars have any theory, and the passage isn’t arguing against anybody else.
  3. CORRECT. The argument is that Native Americans did do autobiographies.
    1. There’s no contrast. The third paragraph says “also”, so it’s saying the tattoos and teepee paint are similar modes of expression, not contrasting ones.
  4. Not even close. A paragraph matching this answer would list several times or places that a given autobiographical feature happened. Enumerate means to count or list things.
Example: We saw some of the autobiographical tattoos among tribes in Kentucky, and also in California, and also in Alaska, and also in New York State.

    Hi Graeme,

Thanks for your explanations – they’ve been quite helpful. But I think you are referring to answer choice E of question 18 above… answer choice E of questions 17 is “to enumerate specific instances in which a phenomenon recurred”.

    Best,
    Mike

Oops! Both D and E were for 19. I fixed it and wrote explanations for question 18. Thanks for catching that.
