LSAT 110 | Section 3 | Logical Reasoning: Q1

LSAT Preptest 110 explanations

LR Question 1 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: If a doctor gives a patient only a few options for life…

QUESTION TYPE: Principle – Must be True

PRINCIPLE: Fewer options lead to better patient adherence to a doctor’s orders.

ANALYSIS: It’s important not to ready anything extra into this. The principle did not say that additional options are confusing, or similar, or difficult to explain, or hard to imagine or anything else. It just said there are more of them, period.

___________

  1. We don’t have any indication that patients become confused when they get more advice. They might understand it but simply not do anything about it.
  2. It might be that there is always a clear difference between the options even when there are a lot of them.
  3. CORRECT. Varies inversely means: when the choices go up, compliance goes down. That’s exactly what the principle says.
  4. If I tell you that you will die, you should be able to vividly imagine the consequences whether I give you two options or twenty.
  5. There’s no reason to think that a doctor couldn’t be as clear about five options as they are about two options.
