LSAT 112, Section 2, RC Passage 4, Law

LSAT Preptest 112 explanations

RC Passage 4 Explanation

This is an explanation for passage 4 of LSAT preptest 36, the December 2001 LSAT. This passage is about the benefits and challenges of South Africa’s switch to a rights-based legal system.

This section has paragraph summaries and an analysis of the passage, links to the explanations for the questions are below.

Paragraph Summaries

  1. South Africa now has a legal system that protects individual rights. This requires some adjustment.
  2. It’s hard to create a rights-based legal system from scratch. So judges look to foreign rulings, but must take care not to misuse them.
  3. The government has to convince the people that the law is on their side now.

Analysis

This passage is much easier, after the hard science passage. I’m not generally a fan of skipping, but passages like this provide a good argument for it. If you didn’t have time to do this passage, you missed some easier points.
There’s not much to say about the passage itself. The paragraph summaries above cover most of the main points.
