LSAT 112 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q8

LSAT Preptest 112 explanations

RC Question 8 Explanation

DISCUSSION: There were two types of scholars. The first group were the literary scholars who knew Latin but only studied literature. The second group were the technical scholars who studied specialized topics. But this group only studied works written in English.

This question is talking about the first group: scholars who read Latin works. They read literature.

___________

  1. The is true of the group that does not read Latin works. The question is only talking about the group that does read Latin.
  2. CORRECT. The neglected Latin texts are those that deal with law, science, etc. The literary scholars haven’t been trained to understand science.
  3. Not true. The specialists who study Latin do understand Latin. But they don’t understand the technical subjects of many important works, and so no one analyzes those works.
  4. No! Few people have studied books that deal with law and medicine. Only literary works written in Latin have been studied.
  5. This is making stuff up. We’re never told if those writers wrote in Latin. Line 4 says they wrote in English.
