LR Question 7 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: In preagricultural societies, social roles were few and were…

QUESTION TYPE: Complete the Argument

CONCLUSION: Modern society has a more diverse social structure which is constantly shifting. (Or something to that effect…we have to complete this one ourselves.)

REASONING: Pre-agricultural society had few social roles, which were therefore stable and well defined. Modern society has thousands of niche roles.

ANALYSIS: Truth is not sufficient for the correct answer here. Think about everything that was said in the argument, and why it was said. You have to figure out where the argument was leading to find the most appropriate conclusion.

The conclusion here is that modern society does not have stable social roles.

___________

  1. It’s not clear that this was true; pre-agricultural social roles weren’t always pleasant or fair.
  2. CORRECT. This is exactly where the argument was going: social roles are less stable. The argument doesn’t conclude whether this is a good or a bad thing.
  3. This is far too broad. There are many, many differences between our society and pre-agricultural societies. The argument by no means claims this is the most important.
  4. That’s absurd…Think about it. If your best friend says “hi,” do you have to rely on technology to interpret their action?
  5. This is true, but not the main conclusion the argument was designed to support.

Recap: The question begins with “In preagricultural societies, social roles were few and were”. It is a Complete the Argument question. Learn how to master LSAT Complete the Argument questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
