QUESTION TEXT: All students at Pitcombe College were asked to label…
QUESTION TYPE: Must be True
ANALYSIS: This shows that many people are actually liberal even though they don’t think they are.
Be careful. It is not necessarily true that all liberals are actually liberal. It’s also possible that all conservatives are actually liberal, for example. The survey results tell us we shouldn’t really trust how people label themselves.
___________
- This isn’t necessarily true. There could be a guy who thinks he is liberal but is actually libertarian, for example. All we need is enough conservatives and middle of the road people to add to the remaining liberals to make 77%
- We have no idea. Maybe all of the middle of the road people are liberal and some of the liberals aren’t actually liberal.
- This can’t be true. Many any middle of the road people have to be secret liberals. 77% is a high number. Even if all conservatives and liberals were liberal you would need 28% of middlers to make 77%.
- CORRECT. This does have to be true. Why? Liberals are 24%, and middles are 51%. Even if you assume they are all liberal and add the two you only get 75%. So we need at least some conservatives to be liberal.
- This is possible but doesn’t have to be true.
