DISCUSSION: Many of the wrong answers talk about things that weren’t mentioned in the passage. Some wrong answers even contradict the passage.
Don’t fall for traps. The wrong answers usually choose a term from the passage, and then use that term in the wrong context. This makes the answer seem familiar even though they’re completely irrelevant.
Check your answer against the passage to make sure you’re not being fooled.
___________
- We don’t know why Jewett didn’t write about children. Secular, artistic novels are sometimes about children.
The reason this is wrong is that the passage never says Jewett was “unwilling” to write about children. - The passage didn’t say if Jewett’s work was urban or rural. This answer just throw in terms that were mentioned on line 23.
- CORRECT. Jewett didn’t have to focus on religion and maternity because she was part of a movement that saw the novel as art. There was no obligation to any goals outside of the work itself. See lines 44-49.
- The passage never said why Jewett wrote about women.
- The passage didn’t say Jewett was unable to feature children. The passage just said she didn’t.
