LSAT Preptest 147 explanations

RC Question 4 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Look at lines 36-41. They say that there are three relevant factors: topography, weather and fuel.

We can only control fuel, so that’s where we should focus.

___________

  1. CORRECT. Read lines 39-41 in particular. They say that fuel is the only one of the three elements we can control, so we should focus there.
  2. This contradicts the passage. The point of the third paragraph is to show that we can control wildfires and help forests return to a healthier state with less fuel.
  3. Nonsense. It’s paragraphs 1 and 2 that show why forests fires are more destructive.
  4. This is total nonsense. It takes words used in the passage, and combines them in a way that doesn’t have much meaning. Lines 36-40 were fairly clear, and they have nothing to do with this answer.
There’s nothing much else to say except to point out that the passage did not argue that specific fuel types are dependent on weather.
  5. Lightning is part of weather. But that’s as far as this goes. Read lines 39-41. They explain the purpose of the three factors: we can only control fuel, so we should focus there.
