DISCUSSION: I would say the main point of the passage is to show that the modular theory of mind is unlikely to be true, and that subtractive fMRI images are misleading.
___________
- Maybe I missed it, but I don’t think the author said that fMRI has grown rapidly. In any case, their main point was to argue that there are conceptual problems.
- CORRECT. The questionable premise is that the mind is modular. This is mentioned in lines 9-14, and argued against in paragraph 2.
The misleading methodological approach is the subtraction approach mentioned in paragraphs 3 and 4. Lines 47-49 show that it is misleading (“obscures”). - This is not the central point. This is an example given in paragraph 2. And, I’m not sure the popular press is mentioned.
- This is too narrow. It’s not the fMRI that is misleading. It is the subtractive images produced by psychology.
- The author didn’t say this. They only said that the modular theory of mind has gained popularity in part due to the images. See line 55.
