LSAT 148 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q21

LSAT Preptest 148 explanations

RC Question 21 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The author describes the modular theory of mind in lines 9-14. The modular theory of mind says that mental activity can be analyzed as distinct modules.

___________

  1. CORRECT. Lines 9-14 support this fairly well.
  2. This is part of the author’s criticism of the modular theory: our brain processes might just be generalized mental activity. See lines 17-21.
  3. I’m not sure the passage mentions physical control of brain processes. In any case, this isn’t cited as a key plank of the modular theory.
  4. The amygdala and the prefrontal cortex were only mentioned as part of an illustrative example. The modular theory says that emotion is in the amygdala, and reason is in the prefrontal cortex.
  5. The author mentions reason giving in lines 25-27. They do imply that the modular theory addresses reason-giving. But, the brain has many functions; the author isn’t saying that the modular theory only talks about reason-giving.
