LSAT Preptest 154 explanations

LR Question 22 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Art critic: All of Dolores Albarran’s oil paintings are…

QUESTION TYPE: Must be True

FACTS:

  1. All her oil paintings are highly original
  2. Few oil paintings are critically acclaimed or popular with collectors
  3. She produced no highly original works until late in her career
  4. Few of her abstract works have originality

ANALYSIS: Let’s rewrite those facts in a way so that it’s easier to form chains:

  1. All oils are highly original
  2. Most oils aren’t critically acclaimed nor popular
  3. All highly original were late in her career
  4. Most abstract works aren’t highly original

From this, we can infer:

if Oil →  highly original → late in career

From Fact #4, we can infer that if most abstract works aren’t highly original, then most of her abstract works aren’t oil paintings.

___________

  1. From the stimulus we don’t know anything about most of her unpopular works.
  2. We don’t know about most of Albarran’s late work.
  3. Again, the stimulus doesn’t give us much about Albarran’s late work.
  4. CORRECT. Like in our prephrase, we can infer that most of Albarran’s abstract works are not oil paintings since most of her abstract works aren’t original.
  5. We know about most of her oil works and most of her abstract works, but that doesn’t tell us that few of her critically acclaimed works are highly original.
