January 2024 LSAT Review

January 15, 2024 by Graeme Blake Leave a Comment

January 2024 LSAT Discussion from Reddit ScreenshotJanuary 2024 LSAT Proctoring and Test Centers

Overall testing seems to have been positive. LSAC continues to iron out difficulties in their proctoring. Powerscore’s Dave Killoran reported on twitter that there were no systemic issues. I have collected some problem reports below, but know that most people had no issues. Here’s a report from a few people with a smooth exam.

Three issues, however, were present based on Killoran’s reporting and Reddit info:

  1. Proctor absences or odd behavior: An unusually large number of students reported proctors who would show up, and then simply leave. This is different from prior reports of having to wait for a proctor. In these cases the proctor would actually vanish in the middle of the exam or on break. Important: One user reports they were able to complete their exam after proctor absence. They called LSAC support and complete and exit and re-entry procedure. Some reports:
    * Proctor gone for two hours
    * Needing to exit and re-enter exam to complete it (success)
    * Meme: Proctors 30min into 10min break
    * My Proctor Ghosted me after pausing my exam
    * Inappropriate proctors
    * Proctor Ghosted Me
  2. Weather Issues: Many in person test centers were affected by winter storms. If you live in an area prone to snow, keep this in mind for any seasonal in person scheduling.
  3. Sporadic Technical Issues: There were widespread reports of the search function not working well: it would lag with every letter entered. There were also sporadic reports of technical issues, such as RC not scrolling.

Note that Macos Sonoma is now supported, and no issues were reported.

January 2024 LSAT Curve

The curve for the January 2024 LSAT can’t be known, as LSAC doesn’t release exams and never discloses current curves. Note also that there are multiple versions of the exam administered each test date, so one version may have a different curve than another.

Despite these issues, people on Reddit attempted to guess at the curve. Overall consensus was current test forms may have been average to slightly easier. You can read the reddit curve discussion here.

One known factor: one of the RC sections (Nigerian authors) was first used in August 2021. The powerscore recap podcast at the time gave that an estimated curve of -1.5 to -2 for a 170.

January 2024 Score Release Date

The January 2024 LSAT’s score release date is Wednesday, January 31st. Based on recent history, score release will be on exactly that date.

Score preview can be purchased between January 20th and January 29th for $75.

February LSAT’s registration date is already passed, so the next available LSAT is the April LSAT. The registration deadline for April is February 29th. The April LSAT is too late for admissions deadlines, but can still make a difference in waitlist movement if you already applied.

If, however, you had an issue during testing LSAC will provided a retest date prior to score release.

January 2024 LSAT Confirmed Topics

Based on Reddit’s Discussion, here are some confirmed topics for the January 2024 LSAT. If you had one of these sections, that section was scored.

Generally speaking, people report that Powerscore’s crystal ball was fairly accurate this test.

There is no scheduled release date for any of the questions from these exams. The last scheduled release was LSAT Preptest 94, administered in 2020.

Note that there were no experimental LG sections. As Logic Games are going away, there will be no more experimental LG sections.

January 2024 Logic Games Topics

  • Italy/Sweden/Germany/FRance
  • Prof, grad, undergrad
  • Fishing/Kayaking/Hiking
  • Products and companies | or Crafts ➞seems like this was the same thing

2nd set of LG Topics

  • scheduling witnesses over four days;
  • scheduling dancers in four types of dances
  • scheduling hospital (?) shifts, 5 employee and 7 shifts;
  • renovation of buildings in three wings

3rd set of LG topics

  • order of movies
  • five different birds of different colors being put on wine labels

  • Marketing Pitches

January 2024 RC Topics

2nd set of real RC topics

  • morality & law (comparative)

January 2024 Real LR Topics

  • a fuel tax
  • someone talking on the phone while driving question/traffic noise

Many Topics from this one: monkey tokens, roasted vs. fresh chicken, girl choosing apartments, revolutionary political movements, distracted driving w/ passengers on mobile phones, sugary vs. healthy drink campaigns, leap seconds/earth’s rotation slowing, dinosaur tracks of a mom/baby dinosaur, star clusters/searching for intelligent life on planets, gravitational waves, North American companies w/ lots of international agreements, journalist values/revealing a witness name, and roofing materials (heaviest/cheapest etc). This section felt manageable for sure, couple of semi-trickery AC that could’ve gone either way but generally normal.

This set of topics originally appeared in 2021. Anyone who took that test would have been given a different LR section.

2nd set of LR Topics

  • Orange used cars
  • raindrops and industrial pollution
  • songbirds and traffic
  • computer and education

This is not an exhaustive list of all scored topics. If you had any other topics, please let me know in the comments. You can know you had a set of scored topics if you only have a single section of that type.
