LSAT 104 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q20

LSAT Preptest 104 explanations

RC Question 20 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Status is related to fighting ability. If you win fights (or possibly if you look like you can win fights), then you’ll have higher status (lines 5-7).

That’s about all we know.

___________

  1. Dark throats were a sign of age in the Harris sparrow, but they weren’t a sign of status between birds of the same age.

Also, status symbols could take many forms in different species.
  2. Don’t confuse birds with humans. High status men often are heavier (tall, strong, etc.), but high status birds might not be. We’re never told if bird weight correlates with status.
  3. We’re never told if high status can be passed on to kids. Maybe each generation has to fight for status from scratch.
  4. CORRECT. This is likely. High status usually means that a bird has won many fights, or could win many fights.
  5. This is true of birds that fight. But a bird that wins fights might not suffer frequent injuries. A high status bird might win enough fights that they no longer have to fight very often.
