LSAT Preptest 107 explanations

LR Question 17 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Wild cheetahs live in the African grasslands…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS:

  1. The cheetah population isn’t big enough to survive a natural disaster.
  2. There isn’t enough grassland to support more cheetahs.

ANALYSIS: Sounds like the cheetahs are extremely vulnerable to a natural disaster. Their population is too small to survive a disaster. But there isn’t enough grassland for their population to grow.

___________

  1. The estimates of the population size might have been accurate.

It’s the estimates of how big the population had to be to survive a disaster that were inaccurate.
  2. We’re not told that the habitat is decreasing. We’re just told there isn’t enough habitat for the cheetahs to expand their population.
  3. There could be other threats. Natural disasters might be very rare, and maybe hunting will cause the cheetah to go extinct in a few years.
  4. CORRECT. In the long term, we might add enough grassland to support a larger cheetah population. But currently there isn’t enough grassland to support a cheetah population large enough to survive a natural disaster.
  5. We’re not told how likely a disaster is.
