LSAT 102 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q5

LSAT Preptest 102 explanations

RC Question 5 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Lines 55-57 showed that the author thought the main problem with encryption was inconvenience.

Encryption with the press of a button sounds convenient, so the author might think this was a good solution for anyone who wanted a guarantee of privacy.

___________

  1. The author recommended encryption. He doesn’t seem to care whether employers are able to monitor communications.
  2. CORRECT. See lines 55-57. Inconvenience was the main concern about encryption, and this simple new method fixes that.
  3. This is way out of left field. Trade secrets are never mentioned, and likewise we’re not told that encryption has legal complications for employers.
  4. Lines 52-55 suggest that encryption might guarantee privacy.
  5. Encrypting your messages sidesteps the issue of expectations of privacy. You’re not waiting for the law to protect you. Instead you’re taking care of your privacy by yourself.
