LR Question 19 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: The postmodern view involves the rejection of modern assumptions…

QUESTION TYPE: Flawed Reasoning

CONCLUSION: We live in a world of irregular events, and where no truth is absolute.

REASONING: Postmodernists thinks we live in a world of irregular events, and where no truth is absolute.

ANALYSIS: Just because postmodernists believe something, doesn’t make it true.

___________

  1. CORRECT. The author needs to present evidence that the postmodernists are correct.
  2. Universal is clear: things that are the same everywhere, in all times.
  3. Which emotional terms? There’s nothing wrong with using emotional terms, as long as the argument presents evidence as well. But I’m not sure any terms in this argument are particularly emotional.
  4. Order isn’t defined, but we can assume it uses its regular definition for this context: there is a set way that things are, thanks to natural laws.
  5. We don’t need examples of theories. The argument described the main characteristics of the theories that postmodernism rejects. That’s good enough. This way, we know the argument is referring to any modern theory that has those characteristics.
