LSAT Preptest 114 explanations

LR Question 18 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: The claim that insurance premiums should increase…

QUESTION TYPE: Role in Argument

CONCLUSION: Automobile insurance should cost more if you drive more.

REASONING: A person’s chance of being involved in an accident increases with the number of times that they drive.

ANALYSIS: The claim is the argument’s conclusion. The argument gives examples to show that behavior that increases risk also increases premiums. Therefore, the fact that frequent driving increases risk means that people should pay more for that behavior as well.

The conclusion doesn’t have to be the final sentence. The “after all” in the last sentence indicates that it is supporting another phrase.

___________

  1. It’s the conclusion. Every other statement supports it.
  2. CORRECT. It is supported by every other statement.
  3. Which premise is supported by this claim? You won’t be able to find it, because it doesn’t support any. Always identify the premise that is supported before choosing this type of answer choice.
  4. The argument doesn’t mention any potential objections.
  5. Which term is clarified? As with C, make sure you can answer that question before picking this type of answer.
