LSAT Preptest 124 explanations

LR Question 10 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Those who have the ability to fully concentrate are always…

QUESTION TYPE: Must be False

ANALYSIS: We know two things:

  1. If you can fully concentrate, you have above average intelligence.
  2. If you’re trained to speed read, you generally get better at concentrating.

(This does not mean you’ll learn to fully concentrate. In other words, it’s possible to speed read without being of above average intelligence).

___________

  1. CORRECT. This is false. If you can fully concentrate, you must be of above average intelligence.
  2. This could be true, though it doesn’t have to be.
  3. Quite possible, the stimulus doesn’t say that everyone who is smart can fully concentrate. Intelligence is merely a necessary condition for full concentration.
  4. Also quite possible, intelligence is not a necessary condition for speed reading.
  5. Possible, though it doesn’t have to be true. But if it could be true, it isn’t the right answer.

Recap: The question begins with “Those who have the ability to fully concentrate are always”. It is a Must be False question. Learn more about LSAT MBF questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
