LSAT 132 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q22

LSAT Preptest 132 explanations

RC Question 22 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The passage doesn’t quite answer the question in answer D, but it at least hints at an answer. This is just a “most helps” question.

From the context of the whole passage, we know that Jewett’s idea of fiction influenced the type of books she wrote. Her books were secular and artistic.

___________

  1. The passage never mentions men.
  2. The passage never says if some domestic novels stayed popular after the 1860’s.
  3. The author actually implies that migration to the cities was not as significant as you might think: see lines 20-25. In any case, we don’t know how urban migration changed fiction.
  4. CORRECT. In lines 49-51, the author says Jewett viewed her novels as ends in themselves. This probably explains why Jewett’s work wasn’t religious and wasn’t intended to instruct people on how to live.
  5. The passage never says where Jewett lived.
