LR Question 24 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Only if a family manages its finances wisely …

QUESTION TYPE: Parallel Reasoning

CONCLUSION: (Fiscal Security OR Functional Budget) → (Manage Wisely OR Realistic Projections)

REASONING:

  1. Fiscal Security → Manage Wisely
  2. Functional Budget → Realistic Projections

ANALYSIS: The key pattern is:

Premises

A → B

C → D

CONCLUSION: (A or C) → (B or D)

The conclusion simply combines the two sufficient conditions and the two necessary conditions with ORs.

___________

  1. CORRECT. Enough Food → Pesticides Continue. Reduced Health Problems → Harmless Pesticides. Conclusion: (Enough Food or Reduced Health Problems) → (Continue Pesticides or Harmless Pesticides). Same structure.
  2. This is more like: Want to lose weight + don’t want health problems → seek medical supervision. The conclusion introduces an AND condition and a new recommendation.
  3. This also has an OR conclusion, but the structure is different. It says: If you want Low-Maintenance OR can’t keep pets → choose nontoxic OR keep plants out of reach. There aren’t two separate premises of the same form as the stimulus.
  4. The conclusion requires satisfying both conditions (AND). Our conclusion had OR.
  5. There’s no OR structure at all here.
