LR Question 12 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Letter to the Editor: Your article on effective…

QUESTION TYPE: Must Be False – Exception

CONCLUSION: Vexone works against all North American cockroaches.

REASONING: The company’s product, Roach Ender, contains Vexone. Product testing studies have shown the product kills all roaches.

ANALYSIS: We’re looking for something that doesn’t contradict the argument.

All of the wrong answers contradict the argument on the same point. According to the letter writer, Vexone does work against all (4,000+) North American cockroaches.

Incidentally, this isn’t a good argument. There might be some other ingredient in Roach Ender which is killing the roaches. The letter never said Roach Ender contains only Vexone.

___________

  1. The letter’s conclusion clearly says that Vexone works against all North American roaches, and there are over 4,000 different type. The letter writer has tested Vexone against all species.
  2. Same as A.
  3. CORRECT. This is exactly what the letter says.
  4. Same as A and B.
  5. There are over 4,000 species. The letter writer says they’ve conducted tests to prove that Vexone works against all of them. So this contradicts the argument, because it says there have been only 4,000 tests (and not more than 4,000).
