LSAT 115 | Section 4 | Logical Reasoning: Q18

LSAT Preptest 115 explanations

LR Question 18 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Foster: Many species of extremely large North American mammals…

QUESTION TYPE: Strengthen

ANALYSIS: We have two competing hypotheses. Foster believes humans killed the animals. Fisch believes climate killed the animals.

Both theories are plausible. We need to either show that climate did do it or that humans couldn’t have done it.

___________

  1. If climate change wasn’t sufficient to kill species elsewhere, this strengthens the idea that humans were the cause.
  2. But what killed the mammals that didn’t survive? This doesn’t answer that question.
  3. This strengthens Foster’s argument.
  4. Weapons they could use to kill mammals.
  5. CORRECT. If animals couldn’t migrate, climate change could be deadly. This helps Fisch.

Recap: The question begins with “Foster: Many species of extremely large North American mammals”. It is a Strengthen question. Learn more about LSAT Strengthen questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
