LSAT 158 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q1

LSAT Preptest 158 explanations

RC Question 1 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The main point is that deep-well drilling is not an ideal method of waste disposal and has several problems.

A main point answer first of all has to be true in the passage. Three of the wrong answers here either actively contradicts the passage or has no support in the passage.

___________

  1. What are these precautionary measures? We don’t know! So that can’t be the main point.
  2. The stimulus only talks about how deep-well injections can be unsafe; we don’t know under what circumstances (procedures, sites, etc.) it would be safe.
  3. The first paragraph says that many industries “turned to…deep-well injection” not that deep-well injections have wholly supplanted other methods.
  4. CORRECT. The passage deals with the problems with using deep-well injections as a method of hazardous-waste disposal.
  5. This is true, but it is hardly the main point. The problems in the stimulus occur despite careful planning. The point of the stimulus is that there are several problems with deep well disposal of hazardous wastes.
