LR Question 9 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Last year, pharmaceutical manufacturers significantly increased …

QUESTION TYPE: Weaken

CONCLUSION: The drug promotion was counterproductive.

REASONING: The number of visits per representative dropped. Doctors are now less willing to see them.

ANALYSIS: The main piece of evidence here is the figure for visits per rep. Before, each rep made around 640 visits. Now, each rep makes around 501.

640 is a lot of visits! That’s basically 2 a day. Now they’re making 1 visit most days and 2 on some days (501 total).

So … each rep is making less visits. We don’t know what that means for the total number of visits.

If they hired more reps, maybe they’re making many more visits – but the workload of each rep has lessened.

___________

  1. CORRECT. If there are more reps, each one will have fewer visits on average. That undermines that doctors are less willing to see them now.
  2. Free samples don’t explain why visits per rep dropped.
  3. Great, but we know their main sales strategy is the doctor visits. It’s the visits we care about.
  4. Sure but this doesn’t explain the drop in visits per rep.
  5. The likelihood of prescribing the drug is irrelevant.
