LSAT 21 | Section 3 | Logical Reasoning: Q9

LSAT Preptest 21 explanations

LR Question 9 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Eva: A “smart highway” system should be installed, one that would…

QUESTION TYPE: Strengthen

ARGUMENTS: Luis points out that traffic reports already exist, on the radio.

Eve retorts (in the question stem) that radio reports aren’t long enough.

ANALYSIS: Three of the wrong answers address problems with the smart highway system. Those answers help Eve, but we’re trying to help Luis.

___________

  1. So? If bad weather slows traffic in both situations then this information doesn’t help Luis or Eve.
  2. CORRECT. Eve says the radio reports are too short. So why not just make them longer?
  3. This helps Eve, not Luis. This shows that a “smart” system can be superior to radio.
  4. This also helps Eve, by eliminating a potential downside of the new system. We’re trying to help Luis.
  5. This also helps Eve. Electronic tollbooths would make her system run smoothly.

Recap: The question begins with “Eva: A “smart highway” system should be installed, one that would”. It is a Strengthen question. Learn how to master LSAT Strengthen questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
