LR Question 6 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Hospital auditor: The Rodriguez family stipulated…

QUESTION TYPE: Point At Issue

ARGUMENTS: The auditor thinks that research does not help lower patient suffering.

The administrator points out that research will eventually ease patient suffering.

ANALYSIS: Both sides have a point. Research does indirectly ease patient suffering, in the future. But the auditor has a point that it’s not an immediate measure to ease suffering.

They disagree on whether research eases patient suffering.

___________

  1. No one talks about eliminating suffering. And the auditor doesn’t mention early treatment of neurological disorders.
  2. The auditor didn’t say whether treatment was adequate. He just said that the funds shouldn’t be spend on anything except relieving suffering. (So if there’s no suffering left to be relieved, presumably the funds should be saved for later)
  3. The administrator seems to agree with the auditor that the money should help ease patient suffering. The administrator just has a different view of what does ease suffering. They argue that research does ease suffering, eventually.
  4. CORRECT. The auditor thinks that the clinic is violating the conditions. The administrator argues that research to alleviate future suffering is within the conditions of the grant.
  5. No one talks about what the Rodriguez family predicted. Both people talk about what the Rodriguez family demanded as terms.
