LSAT 135 | Section 4 | Logical Reasoning: Q3

LSAT Preptest 135 explanations

LR Question 3 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Travel industry consultant: Several airlines are increasing…

QUESTION TYPE: Weaken

CONCLUSION: Airlines should focus on making economy class seats more comfortable.

REASONING: 80% of ticket sales are made by leisure travelers.

ANALYSIS: Ever booked a flight, and seen that economy class is $259, and business class is $2765?

Economy class is the majority of seats. But airlines make most of their money from business class.

So maybe it makes sense to ignore economy class. In fact, the worse you make economy class, the more business people will want to pay to get better seats.

I’m using outside knowledge to form a hypothesis. This is a perfectly valid way of forming hypotheses and pre-phrasing answers. You’re not supposed to shut off your brain on the LSAT.

___________

  1. This doesn’t explain why we should care about business travelers.
  2. So? ‘Some’ could mean one airline. And this doesn’t tell us what other airlines should do.
  3. The argument wasn’t just talking about sleeping in comfort. It was talking about comfort in general.
  4. CORRECT. This shows that business travelers are more important than leisure travelers, even though they don’t buy many tickets.
  5. This shows that leisure travelers are cheap. But it’s still true that leisure travelers buy 80% of tickets. This answer doesn’t show that business travelers are more important than leisure travelers. D is a better answer.
