LSAT 144 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q4

LSAT Preptest 144 explanations

RC Question 4 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: All of the following are similarities between…

DISCUSSION: Only lines 6-23 compare Beethoven and Schoenberg. If you reread those before checking the answers, you can quickly disprove the wrong answers.

The wrong answers are literally in the passage. There’s no “explaining” why they’re wrong. I’ve just provided line references.

___________

  1. CORRECT. Schoenberg worked in a late Romantic style, see line 25. But the author doesn’t say Beethoven did. (And it’s implied he didn’t, since the passage strongly implies that Beethoven composed in an earlier era than Schoenberg.)
  2. See line 1 and lines 6-10. The reviewer called Beethoven shrill and chaotic, but the author says the remark could also have been a description of Schoenberg.
  3. Lines 11-12.
  4. Lines 20-21.
  5. Lines 12-13.
