LR Question 17 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Consultant: The mayor shouldn’t adopt her rival’s controversial…

QUESTION TYPE: Parallel Reasoning

CONCLUSION: The mayor shouldn’t adopt her opponent’s controversial proposal for solving the budget problem.

REASONING: If she adopts the plan and it worths, she strengthens her rival. If it fails, she’ll get blamed for the failure.

ANALYSIS: We’re basically looking for a situation advocating not to do something because the result would be a lose-lose situation.

___________

  1. Right off the bat, this is saying Zvi SHOULD practice his instrument. We need the recommendation to be to NOT do something.
  2. This is missing the part that says, “if it works, it’s bad, if it doesn’t work, it’s also bad”. Right now, it’s just one continuous reason about why Joni shouldn’t self publish.
  3. Like B, this is also missing the lose-lose aspect. Brett is advised not to sell becomes he might gain something in the future.
  4. CORRECT. There are two downsides to Alvin submitting his paper, so he shouldn’t submit his paper. This matches the stimulus.
  5. We want it to say that Elisa shouldn’t call the agency. Eliminate.

Recap: The question begins with “Consultant: The mayor shouldn’t adopt her rival’s controversial”. It is a Parallel Reasoning question. Learn how to master LSAT Parallel questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
